The 4th Congress of International Researchers of Polish History

The 4th Congress of International Researchers of Polish History will take place in Kraków on October 19-22, 2022. It is organized by the Polish Historical Society and co- organized by the Jagiellonian University, Pedagogical University of Krakow, Polish History Museum, Kraków Museum, and International Culture Centre.

The theme of the Congress will be “meetings of cultures”. We would like to look at the history of Polish lands through the prism of mutual relations and interactions with decades- and centuries-old trends and cultural patterns. Ideas and goods, customs and patterns, identities and languages inter each other here like in a melting pot. Cultural, ethnic, linguistic, religious, economic, demographic, and social cultures, they constituted a dominant factor in Polish history, leaving a lasting trace in our cultural heritage and collective identity.

By inviting researchers interested in the history of Poland to Kraków, we would like to address questions about the dynamics, scale and complexity of these interactions, the main directions of their transmission and retransmission, and to look at the effects of the meetings of cultures for the history of Poland.

We invited representatives of various disciplines to participate in the Congress: historians, archaeologists, art historians, anthropologists, sociologists, literary scholars, linguists, and cultural scientists. Graduate and undergraduate students will also be featured in their own sessions. There will be a poster session and the next edition of the “Pro Historia Polonorum: competition for the best foreign book on Polish history published in recent years, as well as other accompanying events, including the promotion of Kraków as a university city.
